Vivo X20 Plus UD World's first in-display fingerprint sensor

After showing it off at CES 2018, Vivo has now officially launched the world’s first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor. The Vivo X20 Plus UD has been ultimately launched in China. The device will be going on sale in China starting from February 1 with a price tag of CNY 3,598 (approximately Rs. 36,100). The device is now only available for pre-order in China. The smartphone will only available in Black colour option.

The phone is the result of collaboration between Vivo and Synaptics, a US-based sensor company.  The sensor is touted to detect fingerprint in few milliseconds and can work under layers up to 1.5mm thick, including a screen protector. The Synaptics is aiming to produce as many as 70 million units of its under-display fingerprint sensors this year.

Vivo X20 Plus UD specifications

The Vivo X20 Plus UD features a 6.43-inch OLED full-HD+ display with screen resolution of 1080x2160 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC that includes four cores clocked at 2.2GHz and another four cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It will run on Android 7.1 Nougat.

The smartphone has 4GB of RAM and 128GB onboard storage that expanded via microSD card (up to 256GB) in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration.

The Vivo X20 Plus UD sports a dual rear cameras set up with a LED flash; a 12MP primary sensor that comes with a f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor. Up front, it featured a 12MP camera for selfies with a f/2.0 aperture that also enables features such as face wake. 

The smartphone packs a 3900mAh battery. For connectivity options, it has 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, ambient light, and proximity. 

Vivo has not yet released any information regarding its global availability and price.
